If you follow me on social media, you have seen that I recently returned from a 10-day spiritual pilgrimage in Ireland. God used our leader, Wendy Schulz, to create unique pathways to connect with God on a deeper level including 4 months of pre-trip (and a month of post-trip) preparation. I highly recommend a trip like this. However, you may not love to travel. This may not be your season due to family obligations, responsibilities or financial means. However, you can learn from how God taught me and never have to board a plane.
One of the simplest, yet more profound ways to pray was one God started before I left . I felt prompted to pray “God, what do you want me to leave in Ireland that is not healthy or is no longer serving my life based on the plans you have for me?” (Action step for you: Write down the word LEAVE in your journal). Next, I asked God “What do you want me to take home from Ireland that will help me based on the plans you have ahead from me?” (Action step for you: Write down the word TAKE in your journal).
The simplicity of this daily prayer is one that you do not have to be on the soil of another country to experience. Asking God where you wake up every day, what are you asking me to leave in yesterday, God? Bitterness? Fear? Comparison? Unforgiveness?
Then, ask God, what do you want me to take with me into the day ahead? Patience? Love? Focus? Discipline?
Psalm 84: 5 says “Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.” You can be a pilgrim in your home!
