I have a Christmas Cactus on my office desk. For some reason it always blooms early fall instead of December. This morning I noted one very small bud beginning on this plant. It was like God was wanting me to see the smallest bud as an example for how He is always providing goodness, even in the midst of hard times. You see, this past week has been jam packed with unexpected twists, turns, interruptions, redirections and responsibilities. My schedule, routine and certainty were interrupted and replaced with flexibility, resilience and responsiveness.
When we go through complicated seasons, it’s easy to miss the smallest blessing God is sending us. However, it is that very small blessing He uses to strengthen our faith as we search for Him. In the book of Zechariah, this is demonstrated in chapter 4, verse 10:
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin….” Zechariah 4:10
How kind that God uses a small bud on a Christmas cactus to remind me of Him faithfully working even uncertainty for my good.
What is God prompting you to take note of? Don’t dismiss it thinking it’s small or insignificant. It might be the small bud God is using to strengthen your faith.
